A pair of former University of Calgary Dinos football players were named unanimous Canadian Football League Division all-stars Thursday announced by the CFL both at the same position in their respective Conferences, offensive center.
Rookie offensive center Peter Nicastro was the unanimous all-star center in the East Division. The 23-year-old Nicastro was a starter the entire season for the Argos after being selected seventh overall in the 2021 CFL Draft. Peter is a graduate of St. Francis High School in Calgary. Peter joined the Dinos in 2016 but missed the season due to injury and starter for three years playing both guard and center. Peter played his youth football with the Mavericks organization.
A change of scenery did not affect the performance of Sean McEwen earning West Division all-star recognition. McEwen was signed as free agent by the Calgary Stampeders in February 2020 after four stellar seasons with the Argos where he earned all-star recognition in 2017 in his second season as a professional. The 28-year-old McEwen was the Argos was a four-time Canada West all-star and three-time U Sports all-Canadian with the Dinos and is a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Calgary. Sean was selected third overall by the Argos in the 2016 CFL Draft. Sean played his youth football with the Hilltoppers organization.
Offensive line coach Paul Carson coached Nicastro his entire career with the Dinos, and assisted then offensive line coach, Steve Buratto with McEwen. Paul, as is the Dino Football program are elated with their achievements at the professional level. “Both are equally excellent players and we are proud of their accomplishments,” Carson stated.
“Peter is a tough physical player while Sean is a very smart technical player and has been one of the top offensive linemen in the CFL for many years,” states Carson
