THREE DINOS FOOTBALL CANADIAN FOOTBALL PLAYERS NOMINATED FOR FOUR INDIVIDUAL AWARDS

A trio of University of Calgary football players currently playing in the Canadian Football League are their respective team’s nominees for individual player awards announced today by the various member clubs.


Offensive lineman Peter Nicastro is a double nominee for the Toronto Argonauts. Nicastro was the team’s nominee for Rookie of the Year and Lineman of the Year. The seventh overall selection in the 2021 Canadian Football League Draft, Peter was a starter along the Argo offensive line the entire season until becoming injured late in the regular season. Nicastro was a vital part of the Dinos offensive line in 2019 when the Dinos captured the Vanier Cup. Peter is the second Dinos graduate to be named Rookie of the Year nominee and multiple award nominee for the Argos following Sean McEwen who is now with the Calgary Stampeders. More about Sean later. Peter is a graduate of St. Francis High School.


Micah Teitz has had a breakout season for the Saskatchewan Roughriders at outside linebacker and special teams and is the team’s unanimous selection as the Most Outstanding Canadian. Micah was selected 14th overall by the Riders in the 2018 CFL Draft. Now in his third season with the Riders, Micah has been a starter the entire season and has recorded 71 tackles and a trio of quarterback sacks thus far this season. His 71 tackles lead the team. Micah was a member of the Dinos 2016 team that a lost hard-fought Vanier Cup game to Laval in Hamilton, ON. Teitz is a graduate of Springbank High in Springbank, AB., just west of Calgary. His brothers Daniel and Nate were members of the 2019 Vanier Cup championship team.


Sean McEwen is the Calgary Stampeder’s nomination for the Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman. McEwen has anchored the Stampeders offensive line at center in 2021 and was a unanimous selection. McEwen, like Teitz was a unanimous selection. Sean joined the Stampeders as a free agent signing in February 2020 after having an outstanding four-year tenure with the Toronto Argonauts. Being nominated for these awards is not new for McEwen, he was the Argos nominee for Outstanding Rookie in 2016, Outstanding Canadian in 2017, 2018, and Outstanding Lineman in 2017, 2018, and 2019. McEwen was a CFL all-star in 2017. Sean is a graduate of Notre Dame High School.


Dinos Head Coach Wayne Harris is proud and elated about the success of the trio. “These are three outstanding graduates that have done extremely well this year. We are extremely proud of what each of them has accomplished,” stated Harris. The West and East Finalists for the CFL Awards will be announced on Thursday, November 25.
