A Teitz has been on the Dinos football team since Micah Teitz joined the program in 2014. That will continue in 2022 and hopefully, beyond.
Defensive lineman Nate Teitz is final of a trio of Teitz brothers who have been with the program.
Micah, the 14th overall selection of the 2018 Canadian Football League Draft, parlayed an outstanding college career turning professional with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2018. After spending his rookie professional season on special teams and no CFL 2020 season due to COVID, Micah had a breakout 2021 season with the Riders starting at outside linebacker.
Middle brother Daniel, had his college career impeded by medical issues forcing him to miss the 2021 season after being a member of the 2019 National Championship team of which Nate was a “red-shirt freshman”. Daniel adapted, focused on academics, graduated from the Haskayne School of Business and is an investment banker in Calgary using his football experience in his new career.
“Daniel is happy where he is at. Football helped him later in life as he learned to manage stress,” stated Nate who is in his second year of eligibility.
2022 is Nate’s opportunity to make an impact along the defensive line. Nate has secured a starting spot on the Dinos rotation along the defensive front with hard work and a solid Fall Training Camp.
“Nate is a tough, old school football player,” states U of C defensive line coach Kent Warnock.
Defensive Coordinator Matt Berry echoed Warnock’s sentiments. “Nate is a very physical player who moves extremely fast for a big player,” stated Berry.
“I got a lot of inspiration from my older brothers. I am very proud of Micah being nominated for outstanding Canadian by the Roughriders, it gives the family and lot of pride, and Daniel is a making a path in business,” stated the 6’3, 270 lbs. Teitz who is majoring in Economics and aspires to play in the CFL.
Though a “red-shirt” freshman, Nate accompanied the Dinos to the 2019 Vanier Cup which Daniel participated and cherishes the moment.
“The Vanier Cup experience keeps me motivated,” stated 21-year-old the fourth year Arts student who like his brothers attended Springbank High School just west of Calgary.
Nate is not only Teitz who has and remains involved with the Dinos football program. Younger sister, Abby, sang the anthem the past three years at home games. Their mother is very actively involved with the Dinos parent’s group making the Teitz family being a huge part of the Dinos football family.
Nate and his teammates will be in action this coming Friday evening at 5:30 PM at McMahon Stadium when they face a formidable opponent in the defending Hardy Cup Champion University of Saskatchewan Huskies. It is the annual KICK OFF game.
