FORMER UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY DINOS DEFENSIVE BACK DRESSES FOR 2022 NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE OPENING

Former University of Calgary Dinos defensive back Deane Leonard not only make the 53-player roster for the Los Angeles Chargers, but he also made the 46-player dress roster for the opening regular season Chargers win 24-19 over the Las Vegas Raiders at SOFI Stadium in Inglewood, CA.
The 6’2”, 195 lbs. Leonard saw action three Chargers special team units, punt coverage, kickoff return and kick coverage.
The 22-year-old Leonard becomes the second former Dino to dress for a regular season National Football League game. Federkeil dressed for 26 games at offensive tackle and special teams for the Indianapolis Colts from 2006-2009 and was a member of the Colts XLI Super Bowl team.
Leonard spent three seasons with the Dinos (2017-2019). He was selected in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Chargers. While with the Dinos he was an elite shutdown corner playing in 23 games finishing with 47 tackles, one tackle for a loss, one quarterback sack and six interceptions for the Dinos. Deane was a two-time Canada West all-star, two-time U Sport all-Canadian and a vital part of the defense on the Dinos 2019 Vanier Cup championship team. His position coach with the Dinos was Marcello Rapini. Deane also excelled in the classroom earning U Sport Academic All-Canadian status and graduated with a degree in Finance.
Leonard has a short prep week as the Chargers are in action in Kansas City Thursday evening against the 2021 Super Bowl champion Chiefs.
